F1 Accident Felipe Massa, Gets hit on head

During the second round of qualifying in the Hungarian Grand Prix Felipe Massa was struck on the helmet by a suspension spring that had fallen from another driver’s car. He subsequently crashed head on into a tire wall. He was moved to the trackside hospital and was in stable condition and would not participate in the race on the following day. It was later announced that he had suffered a fractured skull and brain concussion, as well as a gash on his forehead, and that he had undergone successful surgery on his injuries at the AEK hospital in Budapest. His condition was described as “life threatening but stable” but has since shown signs of improvement and was removed from an induced coma.
Massa’s racing days might be numbered. There might be possible vision related problems with the injury. But as of now Massa 2009 racing is done. He should be out of the hospital by August 2nd.

As you can see from the on-board camera on the F1 car, during the second round of qualifying in the Hungarian Grand Prix Felipe Massa was struck on the helmet by a suspension spring that had fallen from another driver’s car.
